Arsenal and Man Utd on RED ALERT as Cunha admits: 'I need the next step'

Matheus Cunha has raised eyebrows by openly admitting that he 'needs to take the next step' in his career.
The Wolves striker has established himself as a very good Premier League player since initially joining the club on loan in early 2023. Cunha has been crucially important in his side's bid for survival.

The 25-year-old has netted an impressive 13 Premier League goals this term, so one dreads to think where Wolves would be in the table without him. They are currently 17th but nine points clear of the drop zone.
Given his form, bigger clubs have taken notice and Cunha was frequently in the headlines in January. The likes of Arsenal and Man Utd were keen on him, with FootballTransfers confirming the Gunners' interest. Additionally, Nottingham Forest were said to be ready to pay a club-record fee for him.
However, he ultimately decided not only to stay at Molineux but even to extend his contract until 2029. Unfortunately for Wolves, this has done little to calm the speculation surrounding his future.

Cunha admits transfer desire
Cunha has now given an extensive interview to The Guardian and explained his decision to extend his contract. He revealed how thankful he is to Wolves for making him feel appreciated but admitted that he's ambitious and is looking to 'take the next step.'
“I had a lot of offers, but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,” he explained. “Some things you can’t control, but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.

“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
It is precisely because of this desire for a big move that Cunha had a €74 million release clause inserted in his new contract. It remains to be seen if any of his suitors will be ready to shell out that much this summer.
