The Sweden international has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal over the past 12 months, however the Gunners will reportedly pursue alternative targets in their bid to land a new striker this summer.

EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal remain Sesko favourites despite €80m release clause

Gyokeres has scored 80 goals in 89 appearances for Sporting, following his arrival from Coventry City for a measly €24 million in 2023, but Arteta has ruled out the possibility of bringing him to the Emirates Stadium this year, as per El Nacional.

Barcelona, on the other hand, remain interested in signing Gyokeres, although Hansi Flick’s side are reportedly aware that a deal is likely to be complicated due to Sporting’s asking price of €70m and their current financial woes.

The Blaugrana are also interested in signing Lille forward Jonathan David as he is due to become a free agent in July.

Mikel Arteta rules out Viktor Gyokeres

Although Gyokeres is now unlikely to join Arsenal, FootballTransfers understands that Benjamin Sesko remains the club’s priority centre forward target, while we have been informed that Alexander Isak could be tempted to extend his contract at Newcastle United, despite links with a move to north London.

As for Gyokeres, he could be set to join Manchester United this summer as Ruben Amorim looks to complete a reunion with the Swede following the pair’s time together at Sporting.

However, Victor Osimhen is also being pursued by the Red Devils and reports have speculated that he is currently the most likely striker to secure an Old Trafford switch during the 2025 summer transfer window.

Gyokeres has just over three years remaining on his current contract at Sporting CP, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €75m.
