Arsenal are 'best placed' to secure the signing of Viktor Gyokeres this summer, according to Portuguese media.

The Swedish sharpshooter continued his insane season for Sporting CP at the weekend as he notched a brilliant hat-trick against Moreirense. Gyokeres took his tally for the season to a scarcely believable 47 goals and 11 assists in 46 games.

Unsurprisingly, the 26-year-old is one of Europe's hottest striker properties heading into the summer. Speculation surrounding his future has been rampant all season, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd all linked with him.

Gyokeres himself has remained calm as the rumour mill has gone into overdrive. “No one can predict what will happen, we enjoy the moment,” the Swede said after his three-goal haul on Friday.

However, there is a clear expectation for the prolific striker to leave Lisbon this summer, with Sporting CP having already agreed to sell him for around €70 million rather than to insist on clubs triggering his €100m release clause.

Gyokeres to Arsenal taking shape

Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd all desperately need a striker, so their interest in Gyokeres is unsurprising. However, there is already a clear favourite for his signature, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese outlet reports that Arsenal are in pole position for Gyokeres and are 'best placed' to secure his arrival this summer. The Gunners have stepped up their interest in recent weeks following the appointment of Andrea Berta as their sporting director.

Initially, it was thought that the North London giants would pursue a deal for a younger option like Benjamin Sesko, but Berta is convinced that Arsenal need a more established No.9 to take them to the next level.

As for Man Utd, head coach Ruben Amorim would love to reunite with his former player, but their dire economic and sporting situation makes a deal highly unlikely. Unless they manage to sneak into the Champions League by winning the Europa League, signing Gyokeres is impossible.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are not necessarily looking for a full-on replacement for Nicolas Jackson, but rather for a player who can compete with the Senegal international, hence their focus on younger players like Liam Delap.
