The Birmingham club have an option to buy out the attacker’s loan from Manchester United for a fee of around €46.3 (£40m), but there is no guarantee that they will do so.

Although Rashford has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €58.6 million, his wage demands threaten to price the Birmingham side out of a deal.

If that’s the case, he will head back to Old Trafford to be faced with the prospect of being made peripheral once again by Ruben Amorim, a head coach who clearly does not appreciate him.

Other transfer options will likely materialise, but just how serious these are is questionable.

Few strong options for Rashford

Rashford’s big problem, though, is the lack of clubs where he can flourish.

Aston Villa is the dream club for the England winger, according to data analytics experts SciSports. Its Career Advice tool shows that Unai Emery’s side have a Club Fit of 85 – a very high figure indeed. This is measured using a wide variety of metrics from potential development and playing time to style and formation.

Beyond the Champions League hopefuls, though, there is a whole lot of not very much. Inter Milan hit a very decent 74 but West Ham United are the only club to reach the 70 mark.

Man Utd are only rated as 66, while Crystal Palace, who are said to be considering Rashford in the summer, are back on 64.

Palace are not a particularly suitable Plan B for Rashford. The Selhurst Park side to hit five stars when it comes to playing time, but otherwise their score is unremarkable. Indeed, they hit just a single star in formation and only three in style.

If Oliver Glasner’s side recruits Rashford, they will have to overhaul their style in order to get the best from him. Should they not be prepared to do that, Rashford would likely struggle.

With options sparse, though, a move to Selhurst Park might be the best chance Rashford gets to revitalise his career this summer.
