Norway wonderkid Abel Cedergren has spent the past week on trial at Chelsea as the Blues continue their pursuit of the best young talents in world football.

The 15-year-old forward currently plays for Norwegian side Stabaek and he scored a whopping 45 goals in 39 appearances in their youth set-up last season.

CONFIRMED: Victor Osimhen wants to join Chelsea

Cedergren is considered to be one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Norway and Chelsea picked him up on a trial basis last week, according to The Secret Scout.

The Blues wouldn’t be able to sign Cedergren until he turns 18 in 2027, but a move to sister club Strasbourg could be arranged after his 16th birthday in June.

Abel Cedergren: The next Erling Haaland?

Although Cedergren still has a lot to prove before he justifies comparisons with Erling Haaland, he could follow in the Manchester City star’s footsteps by leaving Norway at an early age after impressing in his homeland.

Haaland joined Red Bull Salzburg for €8 million in 2019, at the age of 18, but the Austrian club first scouted him three years prior during a Norway U16 game, as per former sporting director Christoph Freund.

Freund told GOAL in 2020: “It was a very long process for Erling. We first noticed him in 2016 at a game for the Norwegian U16 national team.

“Because it was difficult to get recordings of his games, we had it filmed. He convinced us right from the start, so the scout contacted him and his father.

“It is a great advantage to be in personal contact with a talent and their guardians before any other potentially interested club.”

Chelsea are seemingly attempting to poach Cedergren in a similar manner to Haaland’s RB Salzburg switch as they look to bolster their academy with a talented centre forward capable of eventually breaking into the senior squad.

The Blues have already agreed a deal to bring Kazakhstan teenager Dastan Satpaev to Stamford Bridge when he turns 18 and they are now looking to add Cedergren to their ranks following his trial at Cobham.
