Chelsea are reportedly in “pole position” to complete a surprise move for Napoli star Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa this summer.

The Blues have been linked with a number of central midfielders ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window, including Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo, and they have now expressed their interest in signing Anguissa.

That is according to Gazzetta dello Sport (via AreaNapoli), who claim that Chelsea are “putting pressure” on the 29-year-old as they look to finalise an agreement quickly.

Enzo Maresca’s side are reportedly the frontrunners to land Anguissa this summer, although Ligue 1 side AS Monaco are also interested in acquiring his services and are expected to battle Chelsea when the transfer window officially opens.

Napoli have reportedly triggered their option to extend Anguissa’s contract until 2027, but they are open to a sale this summer if a suitable offer arrives, with the Cameroon international eager for “a new adventure.”

Anguissa has played a key role under Antonio Conte this campaign, however an exit appears to be on the cards and former Chelsea academy star Billy Gilmour could be stand to benefit as he may be promoted into a more prominent role at Napoli if the ex-Fulham man departs.

Chelsea to sign Anguissa?

Anguissa has made 148 appearances for Napoli since his arrival from Fulham, scoring 11 goals, although Chelsea’s pursuit of his signature is slightly surprising given they have almost exclusively signed players aged 23 or under since the arrival of Clearlake Capital as their new owners.

Furthermore, the club already have an extensive list of central midfielders on their books, including the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Andrey Santos.

Dario Essugo will also arrive from Sporting CP this summer, while Chelsea remain interested in signing the aforementioned Mainoo amid his somewhat uncertain future at Man Utd.
