The 22-year-old was viewed as PSG's heir to Kylian Mbappe, but his future is now under intense scrutiny in his native France. Despite starring in the early parts of the campaign, Barcola is second-guessing his standing in the team.

According to L'Equipe, Barcola wasn't entirely happy with Luis Enrique's style of play in late 2024, and the January signing of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was 'incomprehensible' to him.

The Georgian, who plays in Barcola's position, immediately became one of PSG's undisputed star players following his €70 million move, which hasn't gone down particularly well with the youngster.

PSG, it is claimed, want to extend the winger's contract and hand him improved terms, but Barcola has made it clear to the Parisians that he will not make a decision before the end of the season.

Chelsea opportunity?

The French outlet makes sure to emphasise that the situation has not yet become so 'extreme' that Barcola is actively refusing to agree to a new contract, but there is a feeling that he isn't entirely content at the Parc des Princes.

Intriguingly, the reports adds that the Ligue 1 champions are keen on Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche this summer. Although a left-footed right-winger, he would provide further competition on the flanks.

Barcola's potential availability will certainly put Europe's top clubs on red alert, none more so than Chelsea, who attempted to sign him before he joined PSG in 2023.

At the time, the Blues baulked at Lyon's demands as they had asked for Andrey Santos to be included in a swap deal, which ultimately enabled PSG to swoop in.

Two years later, Chelsea are still looking for a long-term left-wing solution as neither Mykhailo Mudryk, currently banned from football, nor loanee Jadon Sancho has truly set the world alight.

Barcola wouldn't be cheap as he still has a deal until 2028, but he would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Chelsea's current wingers.
