Chelsea could inadvertently help Arsenal keep William Saliba for the foreseeable future if they sell Renato Veiga this summer.

Veiga, 21, moved to Stamford Bridge on a permanent deal last year, but he was sent out on loan to Juventus in January after failing to break into Enzo Maresca’s preferred starting XI in west London.

The Portugal international has been tipped to play a role in the Chelsea first-team next season, however the Blues may consider a sale instead amid significant interest in his services.

Juventus have been touted to pursue a permanent deal for Veiga following the conclusion of his loan spell, while Tottenham Hotspur have now registered their interest in the 21-year-old, as per TBR Football.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are eager to sign a new centre-back this summer and they have reportedly identified Veiga as a key target amid concerns over the long-term futures of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Aston Villa are interested in signing Romero this summer, as exclusively revealed by FootballTransfers, while Van de Ven has been tipped to join Real Madrid by his agent.

Jose Fortes, Van de Ven’s agent, recently caused shockwaves by admitting that he “would love” fellow client Ryan Gravenberch to join Carlo Ancelotti’s side and he has also urged Los Blancos to consider a move for the Tottenham defender.

“Micky also has the level to one day play for a big club like Real Madrid . Besides, Madrid needs a player with his talents at the back,” he told Marca.

If Real Madrid heed Fortes’ advice and sign Van de Ven this summer, their interest in Saliba could cool - news that would be extremely well received at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Spurs will likely only allow the Netherlands international to depart if they line up a suitable replacement, with Veiga potentially set to be chosen as the ideal candidate.

William Saliba wants to stay at Arsenal

Although Real Madrid are eager to sign Saliba at some point over the next two years, the France international recently confirmed that he isn’t looking to leave Arsenal.

“For me, I’m really happy here,” Saliba told reporters in March. "I’ve been here for two years and a half as well. There is nothing. I’m happy here and I want to continue here.

“I want to win big things with Arsenal. If you leave this club without winning anything the fans will forget about you. I want to win big things here.”
