Jonathan David makes €50m transfer demand

Lille striker Jonathan David will be a free agent when his contract expires at the end of June, but the clubs eyeing up the Canada striker should be aware that does not mean he will come cheap.
A string of clubs are currently weighing up a move for the 25-year-old forward, who has impressed both in Ligue 1 and the Champions League with Lille this season.
But any deal will come at a high price, as Inter Milan have learned.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Nerazzurri have made the first move to sign David on a free transfer in the summer, offering him a five-year contract worth €5 million net per year.
But this is far from the value that the New York-born attacker has placed on his own head. He wants a contract worth €8m per year in addition to a €10m signing-on bonus. In total, he wants a deal worth €50m to move to Inter.
Jonathan David still a bargain option
David’s contract demands would seem to push him towards the Premier League, where there are six clubs tracking his case.
Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United all want the striker, according to i Sport, but there have also been reports that Arsenal could make a move for him, too.
Despite his apparently lavish demands, a total package of €50 million still remains relatively modest for a centre-forward with his CV. Indeed, his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at €28.6m – and that is a low figure given how close to the end of his contract he is. It previously peaked at €61.8m.
In many cases, that figure would only cover a portion of a transfer fee of such a player, with all of these teams having spent similar on a No.9 in recent years.

David, meanwhile, has told CBS Sports that he wants to play at the pinnacle of the game.
“If I do end up going, I have to push myself to play at the very highest level,” he said. “After that, obviously when you play at a big club, your position is never guaranteed and you need to fight. I'm never guaranteed anywhere I go to start or play every game. I have to perform and I'm willing to fight.
“I know it's an important year, it's a big decision, so I'll make a wise decision.”
The chase for the Canada ace is well and truly on.
