The Egyptian continues to be the subject of rampant speculation as he still has not put pen to paper on a new Liverpool contract. With Trent Alexander-Arnold almost certain to join Real Madrid on a Bosman this summer, Reds fans fear that Salah and Virgil van Dijk will also leave for free.

Over the winter, Salah repeatedly expressed his disappointment at Liverpool dragging their feet in the negotiations over his terms. This was particularly worrying as the 32-year-old was being openly courted by the Saudi Pro League.

Riyadh heavyweights Al-Hilal are desperate to sign the winger after axing Neymar in January. Despite this, it was recently reported that Liverpool were optimistic about a Salah extension as he had yet to give any encouragement to Al-Hilal that he would be willing to join them.

However, the situation appears to have drastically changed over the past week or so.

Salah 'interested' in Saudi move

The Telegraph claims that Al-Hilal are still 'confident' about Salah and that the player 'remains interested' in a potential move to Saudi Arabia this year.

The report concedes that, contrary to what Al-Hilal had hoped for, a transfer is unlikely to materialise before the Club World Cup. However, Saudi sources are adamant that a move could still materialise this summer.

Salah is weighing up Liverpool's contract offer and has yet to arrive at a final decision. It is stated that the 'lines of communication' with the Pro League remain open while he's mulling over his future.

The 'Egyptian King' is prioritising talks with Liverpool, but the Saudis believe that a lucrative move to the Pro League appeals to him. Meanwhile, the chances of Salah joining a different European club are described as minimal.
