Both David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano report that Manchester United could sell Andre Onana this summer.

The Cameroon international has become a new scapegoat for the Red Devils' failures over the past week after his humiliating showing against Lyon in the Europa League.

Before the game, Onana had come out with some quotes that, taken out of context, reflected quite badly on him as he had claimed that an in-form Man Utd would be 'way better' than Lyon.

However, Onana apparently forgot that neither he nor his teammates have been at the top of their game at all in recent times, and he duly made two howlers to cost Man Utd a crucial first-leg advantage.

It was made all the more painful as the 29-year-old was called 'the worst goalkeeper in Man Utd history' by former Red Devil Nemanja Matic, so head coach Ruben Amorim moved to protect Onana by giving him the weekend off.

Onana to be sold

However, Man Utd's game against Newcastle turned into another debacle. Stand-in shot-stopper Altay Bayindir was himself guilty of mistakes as the Manchester giants suffered a chastening 4-1 defeat.

The Red Devils have a goalkeeper problem, and several potential summer reinforcements are already being linked. As for Onana, transfer insiders Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein both report that he could be offloaded this summer.

"For Onana in general, the situation can be one to watch in the summer transfer window because I told you in January that Onana signed with a new agent. The agent is Fali Ramadani, Lian Sports, so he decided to trust Ramadani to take care of his future in January," Romano said on his YouTube channel.

"There is interest from the Saudi Pro League since he was at Inter, but he preferred a move to Man Utd. He had this dream to play for Manchester Man Utd. Now I can say that the interest from the Saudi Pro League is still there for Onana. So there is still strong interest."

Ornstein similarly explained on an appearance on NBC Sports that Onana's future is now in doubt, although Man Utd will struggle to offload him without making a loss.

"It does raise questions about the future of Onana. He joined for £47.2 million in the summer of 2023, signing a five-year contract with the option of a further 12 months," the journalist began.

"Unless somebody came in with huge money for him, the hopes of United selling him for a profit are almost non-existent, and that would mean a PSR - Profitability and Sustainability - loss, which could rule out the possibility of selling him.

"He has switched agents in recent months. That was meant for a new contract to improve terms, but he may not have to look at trying to shift his player. And this would not have been expected for Manchester United. It wasn't on the agenda, another goalkeeper."
