Manchester United have received a pleasant surprise from Fabrizio Romano with the news that the release clause in Rodrigo Mora's new contract will be significantly lower than initially reported.

The Portuguese wonderkid has played himself onto the radar of European top clubs after properly bursting onto the scene this season. Mora, who turns 18 next month, has scored nine goals and provided three assists for boyhood club Porto so far this term.

His stunning emergence has convinced Porto that they quickly need to hand him improved terms. To that end, they moved swiftly to open talks and Portuguese media outlets have been reporting for a few weeks now that a new deal is all but done.

This has now been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, who states that 'every detail' of his new long-term contract has been agreed. Mora will be tied to Porto until 2030, with the deal set to be announced next month, likely when he celebrates his 18th birthday.

That is not all, however, as Romano has provided one very intriguing fact that will certainly pique the interest of the attacking midfielder's suitors.

Mora's release clause cheaper than suspected

The transfer insider has revealed that Mora's new release clause will stand at €70 million going forward. Of course, this is a very hefty lump of money for a teenager, but it is also a significant reduction from the fee previously touted.

Portuguese media had been reporting that Mora would be fitted with a whopping €100m exit clause as part of his new contract, but this is evidently not the case now.

This will be music to the ears of the likes of Man Utd and PSG, who have been linked with the 17-year-old in recent weeks. Cash-strapped Man Utd, in particular, will love this revelation even if signing Mora is clearly not a priority for the club at this point, given their talks with Matheus Cunha.

If sold for €70m this summer, Mora would become Porto's record sale despite his clause being lower than initially thought. The Portuguese giants, who have endured financial difficulties recently, sold Nico Gonzalez for a joint-record €60m to Man City in January to balance the books.
