Man Utd urged to consider Matheus Cunha U-TURN despite €74m agreement

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha will “struggle” if he moves to Old Trafford this summer.
Ruben Amorim’s side are expected to sign several reinforcements during the 2025 summer transfer window, and reports suggest they have already reached an agreement to trigger Cunha’s €74 million (£62.5m) release clause.

The Brazil international is set to become the fourth signing of the Amorim era at Old Trafford, following the arrivals of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven in January, and Diego Leon's imminent summer move, and he has been tipped to play as an attacking midfielder alongside Bruno Fernandes next season.
Cunha has been deployed as a centre forward on a number of occasions during his time at Wolves, but Man Utd are still expected to sign a more natural number nine this summer, with Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Liam Delap among their top targets.
Although a deal to sign Cunha has reportedly been agreed, Scholes believes there is a decent chance that he will fail at Old Trafford.

Paul Scholes on Matheus Cunha
“He [Cunha] looks like he’s got the attributes that Ruben Amorim wants,” Scholes told TNT Sports when discussing the Wolves star’s expected move to Man Utd.
“He knows that physically, his team are just not strong or quick enough, so Matheus Cunha is obviously athletic, and he’s got quality with 15 league goals this season.

“I just worry for any signing coming to Manchester United at the minute. It just feels like it’s such a bad place to go. The quality of play right now is so poor. And with Cunha, is he a centre-forward or is he a wide player?
“There’s no doubt that he has quality and of course, it would be nice to sign him, but I worry about where he fits in.
“You can sign the best three players in the world, and I think they’ll struggle coming into this team at the minute, but they’ve got to start somewhere.”
