Manchester United look increasingly likely to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli during the summer transfer window, with head coach Ruben Amorim seeing the Nigeria striker as “perfect” for his ailing side.

United have struggled horribly for a consistent goal scorer in each of the last two seasons and will be going all out to sign a world-class No.9 during the summer.

Osimhen looks a strong bet to be their man, with reports indicating that the early stages of a transfer agreement have been reached between the Red Devils and the 26-year-old forward, who has spent the season on loan at Galatasaray.

Indeed, Amorim sees Osimhen is “perfect” option for his side, thanks both to his scoring prowess and also the belief of Man Utd that he will be available for a bargain price this summer, The Mirror reports.

It adds that Amorim prefers the Napoli star, who has 29 goals from 34 appearances this season, over Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who will be available for €35m (£30m), because of his European experience.

Osimhen available for a bargain price?

While Man Utd have already agreed the basic framework of a contract with Osimhen, they will also have to deal with Napoli.

The Serie A club will be under some pressure to sell as the striker is moving into the last year of his contract. Although they have a reputation for playing hard ball in the transfer market over the fees of their players – a major reason why Osimhen was not sold last summer – The Mirror reports that United are hopeful they can strike a bargain deal.

It is claimed that the Old Trafford side are “confident they can land the Nigeria international for a fee considerably lower than his market value”.

Osimhen’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €68.9m. Napoli, meanwhile, have been insistent that if he is to leave in the summer, clubs will have to meet his €75m release fee, available to non-Italian teams.
