Osimhen, 26, was on the verge of moving to Stamford Bridge in 2024, but the deal collapsed at the final hurdle and he eventually joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on loan instead.

However, the Nigeria forward is expected to leave Napoli on a permanent transfer this summer and FootballTransfers understands that he is open to finally securing a move to Chelsea.

Mikel, who has a strong relationship with Osimhen, also believes that his compatriot wants to move to west London.

“Listen, it will be really sad if we don’t get a player who supported us as a kid and wants to play for this football club,” Mikel admitted on The Obi One Podcast.

“His idol is [Didier] Drogba, he will want to break records, win us trophies, get us back to the top, come for Drogba’s records. I’m telling you that would be his mission.

“If the club chose not to pursue it then well fair enough, good luck to them, but the good thing about it is we know where we left it, we can literally pick the phone up and get him straight in the door. Get him in!”

Victor Osimhen to join Chelsea?

Although Mikel is eager for Chelsea to sign Osimhen, and the Nigerian himself is open to a Stamford Bridge switch, recent reports have indicated that Enzo Maresca’s side may decide against pursuing a deal due to his wage demands.

The Napoli forward is reportedly asking for an annual salary of over €10 million and a move to Saudi Arabia is therefore now an option, with Chelsea unlikely to match his request due to their new wage structure.

Manchester United, who have been touted as another potential destination for Osimhen, have also shifted their focus away from the 26-year-old as a result of his salary, with Liam Delap now reportedly their priority.
