Victor Osimhen is set to be a major protagonist in the summer transfer market, with the Napoli striker wanted by a string of major clubs – but a transfer bomb has just dropped that changes everything for the Nigerian.

Osimhen has been linked to major clubs around Europe after spending the last season on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.

The 26-year-old has continued to be prolific in Turkey, fuelling speculation that he will make a €75 million move this summer.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus and PSG have all been linked with Osimhen, but on Wednesday it appeared that Manchester United were set to make a decisive play for the former Lille hitman.

News of Man Utd’s interest in the prolific striker came from The Mirror, which reported that head coach Ruben Amorim saw the striker as his “perfect” option in attack. Furthermore, it was claimed in this report that the Red Devils were hopeful of signing Osimhen for a bargain price of €50m.

Previously, it had been claimed that a tentative transfer agreement had been signed between the club and the player.

If that was an option that appealed to Osimhen, his hopes of going to Man Utd have been dashed by claims from the reliable David Ornstein, who says the Nigeria international is not on the agenda of the Red Devils this summer.

What this means for Osimhen

Even if Man Utd have dropped out of the race to sign Osimhen, the striker still has plenty of options on the table.

As previously mentioned, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all hold interest in the Napoli striker in the Premier League, while Juventus and PSG are other huge clubs capable of signing him.

What it means for Man Utd

With Osimhen off the table at Man Utd, this points to the Old Trafford club moving instead for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who is another prominent name rumoured to be of interest.

United have also been linked with Viktor Gyokeres, but Amorim’s former protégé at Sporting CP appears to have little interest in joining his mentor at the Theatre of Dreams.
