Arsenal have held 'concrete talks' with Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane, according to German media.

The 29-year-old is out of contract this summer and the Bavarians have dragged their feet in negotiations over a renewal. Although both parties are generally open to extending their collaboration, Bayern have major concerns about Sane's hefty salary.

The Bundesliga champions-elect want the attacker to take a pay cut, but Sky Germany reports that some within the club still harbour doubts over whether keeping him is the right decision, even on favourable terms.

Sane has struggled to live up to his sparkling reputation since joining the Munich outfit in 2020, but he has been keen to show in recent weeks that he is still a useful player.

He netted a brace against promoted St. Pauli at the weekend and Bayern certainly appreciate his upturn in form. Talks with the Germany international are ongoing, but the club have yet to table him a formal offer.

Arsenal open Sane talks

The above-mentioned outlet also states that Arsenal have held initial talks with Sane over a Bosman summer transfer. Mikel Arteta has never made a secret of the fact that he still has a good relationship with his former Man City colleague.

Arsenal are said to be 'seriously interested' in Sane, and their infatuation with Sane is nothing new either, with FootballTransfers already exclusively reporting last summer that they were considering him as an option.

Bukayo Saka is set to return from his injury lay-off imminently, but his enforced break has shown that Arsenal desperately need more wide options. We previously explained that Sane would be ideal for the Gunners as he is 90 per cent similar to Saka, according to data firm SciSports.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal can convince Sane to return to the Premier League. He is settled in Munich and wants to stay. But with Bayern still not entirely convinced that they should extend with him, he may have no choice but to consider a move.
