Fabrizio Romano reveals that Alejandro Garnacho’s Man Utd future will not be affected by his controversial antics against Ipswich Town.

Garnacho caused controversy during the 3-2 win over Ipswich last week with his reaction to being substituted.

The Argentine stormed straight down the tunnel instead of sitting with his teammates on the bench after being sacrificed for Noussair Mazraoui when Patrick Dorgu was sent off just before half time.

It had been reported that Garnacho’s actions would hasten his departure from Man Utd this summer.

However, it has since emerged that Garnacho left the pitch in order to change his shirt and not because he was furious with manager Ruben Amorim.

Garnacho is understood to have apologised and Amorim ‘punished’ the player by instructing him to buy the squad dinner.

Romano says that that is where the incident ends and it will not affect his future, with the player still possibly being sold at the end of the season.

What did Romano say?

"It was clarified internally and Amorim appreciated how open Alejandro was to talk directly to him after what happened,” Romano said.

“Now it's all good, I don't think this is impacting his future; in any case his situation was open in January and remains open for the summer."

Garnacho was close to leaving Man Utd during the January transfer window after agreeing personal terms with Napoli.

Napoli were locked in negotiations with Garnacho for over a fortnight during January as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after the Georgian star joined PSG for €75 million.

However, the two clubs failed to agree a fee and Garnacho ended up staying.

Garnacho has been unsettled at Old Trafford for some time, and has not shown his best form under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Garnacho at Man Utd

The 20-year-old Garnacho was one of the few bright lights of Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Manchester United.

He was one of the breakout stars in the Premier League in 2022-23, making eight goal contributions from 10 starts and 29 appearances.

He had a string of memorable performances, including the winner against Real Sociedad in the Europa League which made him the youngest foreign player to ever score for Man Utd in European competition.

Garnacho broke a string of records, and also starred in the Manchester derby, assisting Marcus Rashford’s winner in the 2-1 victory over Man City.

Last season Garnacho continued to impress, with 10 goals in all competitions. He scored in the 2-1 FA Cup final win over Man City, hit a memorable brace in the 4-3 victory over Chelsea and scored the goal of the season with a stunning bicycle kick against Everton.

This season Garnacho has seen his star shine less bright, with just three goals and one assist in 26 Premier League games.
