The race for Rosenborg star Sverre Nypan is heating up as a string of Premier League clubs line up bids - and FootballTransfers reckons Arsenal’s the best destination for him.

Sverre Nypan is one of Europe’s brightest prospects right now. Back in February last year, the FootballTransfers newsletter flagged the Norway U21 international as a future star after his breakout 2022 campaign, marking his first real steps into professional football.

With eight goals and seven assists in 28 Eliteserien games during the 2024 season, the Rosenborg BK academy graduate is proving he’s ready to step up a level. The Gunners are in pole position to sign the youngster, but they’re not alone - Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United are among those clubs in hot pursuit.

Best club for Nypan: Why Arsenal are the best fit?

Manchester United could promise more minutes, but it’s worth avoiding a club in chaos, where talents like Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled to shine.

Manchester City might pave a smoother path to first-team football via a loan to CFG partner Girona, but shifting leagues could unsettle an 18-year-old still finding his feet.

Liverpool’s interest is real, yet Nypan would land in a probable title-winning midfield, battling for time against youngsters like Stefan Bajcetic, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones.

Heading to the Emirates, though, strikes the right chord - a stable setup with a smart mix of development and game time for the young Norwegian.

Where does Nypan fit in at Arsenal?

Arsenal’s hunt for a deep-lying midfielder like Martin Zubimendi won’t clash with their interest in Nypan, who’d slot into a different role altogether. With Thomas Partey and Jorginho likely off in the summer, Mikel Arteta will need fresh legs in midfield.

The injury woes plaguing their attackers this season have shown the Gunners need depth and quality across the squad to fight for the title. They’re tipped to grab a forward in the summer, but they can’t afford to skimp on midfield again - Nypan’s skill set makes him a brilliant addition.

At Rosenborg, he’s already comfortable in the 4-3-3 setup Arteta favours. If a new No.6 arrives, Nypan’s technique and smarts let him flex across the other midfield spots—backing up Declan Rice on the left or stepping in for Martin Odegaard higher up.

What will Nypan bring to Arsenal?

Arsenal’s dip to under two goals per game this season marks a steep drop from last year’s 91-goal haul at 2.4 per match - likely the biggest reason they’ve faded in the title race. Midfield goals have dried up most, with Odegaard (8) and Rice (7) plummeting from a combined 15 to just 3 this term

Nypan’s eight goals at 0.35 per 90 prove he can deliver in this regard. His two-footedness lets him shake off pressure and outfox defenders in tight spots, while his 0.25 assists per 90 highlight a knack for picking out the killer pass. That’s gold for Arsenal, who’ve struggled to unlock defences in the final third this year.

As the numbers below show, he’s also gritty - winning duels and holding his own defensively, everything you’d want in a midfield gem.

Sure, his stats come from the Norwegian league, but posting those figures at 18 screams potential to shine at the top level.

Arsenal’s rise back to title contention is impressive, but they’ll need to flex off the pitch too - beating rivals to Nypan could be the move that pushes them over the line.
