Chelsea have announced that Mauricio Pochettino will become the third manager of the Todd Boehly era at the club, with the Argentine the full-time replacement for Graham Potter, who himself replaced Thomas Tuchel.

Pochettino arrives at Stamford Bridge with his hands full. Not only does he face the prospect of turning around a team that finished 12th in the Premier League, he must do it with the burden of being a former Tottenham boss and, therefore, not a favourite of the Blues support.

Chelsea have given the former PSG boss a two-year deal with the option of a third – in sharp contrast to the long contracts they have been awarding their players.

“Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward. He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate,” Chelsea co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said in a statement.

The fans, meanwhile, are happy with the arrival of a coach who has a proven track record of winning matches at the top of the Premier League, though not necessarily winning trophies.
