The summer window was a crazy one for Chelsea as they were once again one of the biggest spenders.

Article continues under the video

Mauricio Pochettino joined the Blues last summer, however he lasted just 11 months in charge and left by mutual consent on 21 May after a post-season review meeting.

The Blues subsequently announced on 3 June that Enzo Maresca had been appointed as their new manager.

Although Todd Boehly has overseen a spend of more than €1.2 billion on new players since arriving at the club in 2022, there has been no success to show for it, with the Stamford Bridge outfit finishing 12th in his first campaign as owner and sixth in 2023-24.

However, Chelsea continued to target a raft of promising young players, despite the evident need for more experience in the dressing room. Other high-profile targets such as Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney did not arrive.

The west London club signed Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo this summer, while Estevao Willian, Mike Penders and Kendry Paez will arrive in 2025.

In addition, Chelsea sold the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall and Omari Hutchinson, with Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva departing on free transfers.

Our Chelsea transfer live blog brings you all the latest news surrounding the Blues, including exclusives from our own reporters as well as checking out what the other big names are saying (including the likes of Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein).

Despite the window being closed, the Stamford Bridge rumour mill continues to be in full swing.

More on Lavia

Chelsea back Lavia

Chelsea are fully supportive of Romeo Lavia and will continue to back him despite injuries.

That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the club trust his talents and aren't looking to ship the 20-year-old elsewhere.

“The stories in the press about Romeo Lavia are absolutely not true. Chelsea are very happy with his talent and skills,” the transfer guru told the Daily Briefing.

“Of course he's been unlucky with injuries but Chelsea are supporting Romeo, waiting for him, trusting his talent.

“Spreading negative stories with zero confirmation of that is not the best for the boy, there's nothing in these stories at all.”

Brothers in arms

Inaki Williams told reporters in Spain that he believes his brother, Nico Williams, made the right call by staying at Athletic Club.

Nico was the subject of interest from Chelsea and Arsenal this summer, among others.

The Bilbao team will seek European glory in the Europa League, which begins tonight against Roma.

“It has been a very long, very hard summer. A summer of having to make decisions,"  Inaki told Sport.

"After several months, for me he has made the right decision.

“Now we have a dream to fulfil, like the whole team. There are few of us who have been lucky enough to play in European competition with Athletic and now we are going to fulfil the dream of many.”
