The Bees are ready to sell their No.1 goalkeeper following the capture of Freiburg shot-stopper Mark Flekken for just €13 million – a deal that had been widely reported in Germany but has now been given Fabrizio Romano’s famous “here we go”.

According to Romano, Brentford have completed a move for Flekken, triggering the Dutchman’s release clause. Everything is in place for the transfer to be announced, with the documents signed and the medical test completed.

The arrival of Flekken, meanwhile, is set to trigger fresh speculation over the future of Raya, who is expected to be allowed to depart with a replacement found and signed.

What next for David Raya?

The 27-year-old Raya has regularly been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea, both of whom are targeting a new keeper this summer.

Whereas Man Utd are looking for someone to provide competition to David de Gea, who is set to sign a new contract with the club after winning the Premier League Golden Glove thanks to the number of cleansheets he kept this season, Chelsea are very definitely in the market for a first choice.

Neither club has vast resources to commit towards a goalkeeper this summer, though. Both teams are seeking to sign players in similar areas, with both crying out for a prolific centre-forward, while a central midfielder is also high on the priority list for the Premier League giants.

Brentford are reportedly holding out for €46 million (£40m) for Raya, though it is unlikely that either Man Utd or Chelsea would be tempted to move at that price for a player who has just one more year left to run on his present contract.
