What did Romano say?
The Italian transfer journalist claims that Chelsea are not planning to sell Enzo this summer.
The Blues consider Fernandez as a very important player not only today but for the future.
Fernandez has been a mainstay in Enzo Maresca’s preferred midfield pivot so far this season and he has scored nine goals and provided nine assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.
After a slow start, the 24-year-old has been a key player in west London since his arrival from SL Benfica in January 2023. He has worn the captain’s armband on multiple occasions so far this season amid Reece James’ injury issues.
Romano does concede that Madrid are planning to sign a central midfielder this summer.
Real Madrid Confidencial has reported that talks between Real Madrid and Chelsea have reached the stage where Madrid president Florentino Perez is now involved.
The report states that Perez is ready to sit down with Enzo’s agent to discuss terms and a possible formal offer.
Enzo has also been heavily linked in recent days with Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea value Enzo at €100 million and do not want to sell but an offer around that region could be considered.

The Argentina international still has seven years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €74.2m - the third highest of any player in the Chelsea squad.
Enzo has well and truly overcome the problems he faced following the Argentina racism scandal last year.
Enzo hit the headlines after he and a group of Argentina teammates were filmed celebrating their Copa America victory by chanting a derogatory song about the France national team.
The song in question has been called racist and transphobic as it contains a number of references to the African heritage of France players, as well a transgender insult.
Enzo apologised but his behaviour caused problems in the Chelsea dressing room.
Many of Enzo’s Chelsea teammates were furious with the Argentine for his behaviour, with Wesley Fofana publicly slamming the Argentine and a number of the Blues’ French and African players unfollowing Enzo on social media.
Enzo escaped punishment for the incident and rebuilt his Chelsea career to enjoy a successful individual season.
