‘Ruined the weekend’ – Man Utd and Newcastle fans react to Dubravka revelation
Martin Dubravka is close to joining Manchester United from Newcastle, having reportedly agreed terms with the Old Trafford side.
Although the clubs have to agree terms for the transfer to take place, there is a sense that the Magpies’ second-choice goalkeeper is destined for a switch to Old Trafford – one that he surely would not have expected at this late stage of his career.
Nevertheless, it is a deal that appears to have united both sets of fans, who appear to be equally unhappy with the move.
What the fans think
Manchester United’s fans had been hoping for something more to challenge David de Gea for the No.1 spot – with Yann Sommer the keeper they want – while many Newcastle supporters are unhappy with the manner in which the shot-stopper has tried to force his way to Manchester.
Red Devils fans are particularly concerned that it appears they just want to complete any deal, although there is the odd dissenting voice.
Trying to ruin or weekend already

FdJ to Casemiro, and now Sommer to Dubravka.
No one even cares anymore at this club lol. We just want to bring any player in https://t.co/ctE4A2Gr73— Anuraag Kulkarni (@Anuraag027) August 27, 2022
Dúbravka is not the answer to our problems but “beggars can’t be choosers” seems to fit here sadly. I hope we trigger Diogo Costa’s release clause for next season. I’ll be patient with Dúbravka and De Gea until then. We can’t fix everything at once. It is what it is.

No Sommer this summer, let's accept that and move on. Dubravka is a decent goalkeeper, and you know what else? He's desperate to join Utd unlike other arrogant players who think they're too good for us.

Dubravka has shown in previous seasons he can do everything De Gea can’t especially claiming crosses, I just hope Ten Hag can get the best back out of him. I’m always willing to give every new player a chance. https://t.co/st80lMpp9w

Newcastle supporters are equally unimpressed by their player.
This Dubravka situation reeks of a player throwing his toys out of the pram at the first sight of meaningful competition. It's a shame, always liked him. But he's fighting for a move to warm a bench somewhere else. Weakening our squad? #nufc

If Dubravka wants to leave that badly, let him go. I’m not interested in having someone here who doesn’t want to be here.

Dubravka has been a good servant and played his part in our survival but if he doesn’t want to challenge Pope I say let him go. You don’t want a player staying if they don’t want to, it could upset the dressing room something Howe has worked hard on. #NUFC

Respect to Martin Dubravka. No matter where he ends up, he has been essential in keeping #NUFC in the PL since his arrival.
Dubravka didn’t deserve to be replaced (even though Pope is mint). Gets nothing but well wishes from me. 👏🏼— Charlie Bennett (@CharIieBennett) August 27, 2022
