Unai Emery has emerged as Manchester United's favoured choice to replace Ruben Amorim this summer.

That is according to Fichajes, who report that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Man Utd's chiefs are hugely impressed by the work that Emery has done at Aston Villa.

Emery has been a revelation at Villa since joining with the club at risk of relegation in 2022. In his first full season he led Villa back into the Champions League for the first time since the early 1980s.

United chiefs believe he has the experience and pedigree to flourish at Old Trafford, despite his difficult spell at Arsenal between 2018 and 2019 which led to his sacking.

Fichajes adds that Amorim is very much at risk of the sack at Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The publication previously reported last week that United had drawn up a three-man shortlist to replace Amorim of Zinedine Zidane, Thomas Tuchel, and Mauricio Pochettino.

But they now say that Emery has moved to the top of the list.

Amorim is under pressure at United after a disastrous first three months at the club.

He has a win rate of just 44 per cent - one of the worst in the club's history - and has overseen United dropping to 14th in the Premier League table.

As a result, there are increasing calls for Amorim to be sacked by Man Utd fans and pundits.

On Sunday, United and Amorim have a must-win game in the FA Cup against Fulham.
