That is according to the Liverpool Echo, who report that the Reds are still in discussions with the right back and are confident he will sign a new contract.

The report will come as a big blow to Real Madrid fans, who believed that a deal to sign Trent on a free transfer this summer was all but wrapped up.

Indeed, while it has always seemed more likely that Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk will extend their expiring contracts, the feeling was that Trent was a lost cause.

The LiverpoolEcho, though claim that Liverpool believe Trent will extend his deal and reject Madrid.

Trent's contract at Anfield expires at the end of June, meaning he can join a new club on a Bosman Contract.

Real Madrid have reportedly offered Trent Alexander-Arnold a contract worth a staggering €90 million.

The Liverpool right back is said to have been offered a five year contract with a salary of €17-18m per season. That will be worth an incredible €90m over the course of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid have been long-term admirers of Alexander-Arnold and see the right back as the long-term successor to the ageing and injured Dani Carvajal.

Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool

Alexander-Arnold was born in Liverpool and grew up in the club’s youth academy from the age of six.

He made his senior debut for Liverpool at the age of 18 in 2016 and went on to become a key player in Jurgen Klopp’s successful era at the club.

Famed for his brilliant right-foot, vision and long cross-field passes, Alexander Arnold has made over 300 appearances for Liverpool.

He has won seven trophies with Liverpool, including the 2019 Champions League and 2020 Premier League.

He has been capped 33 times by England but under previous manager Gareth Southgate never had the same trust from his country as he has had at his club.
