Messi, who picked up an eighth Ballon d'Or earlier this week, and Suarez spent six successful years together at Barcelona from 2014-2020 before he latter was forced out to Atletico Madrid in a move that angered the Argentine.

And Inter Miami are hoping to rekindle some of the magic that saw the combination win the 2015 Champions League as well as four LaLiga titles, four Copas del Rey, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

According to Uruguayan publication El Pais, Suarez is set to leave Gremio to hook up with his old friend in the USA.

The source states that “everything is on track” for a deal to be done before detailing just where the situation stands a couple of months before the contract of ‘El Pistolero’, whose career had been in doubt earlier this year due to knee problems, expires in Brazil.

“There has already been an exchange of emails with the MLS team and the initial idea is that the length of Suarez's contract with Inter Miami is for one year, with the possibility of one more year if both parties deem it appropriate and agree,” it states.

“Suarez is scheduled to make a trip to Miami only in December – when he will finish adjusting contractual details and other aspects of the deal, such as the place where he will stay with his family. He first intends to finish the season with Gremio in the best possible way and leave his name engraved among the gaucho fans.”

Gremio want Suarez stay

Gremio have indicated that they wish for their top scorer to remain at the club.

“If the opportunity arises to negotiate with Suarez, we will talk. Of course we want him to stay, but the latest update is that he will leave at the end of the year," Gremio president Alberto Guerra told Gaucha ZH in the midst of a fan campaign to get him to stay.

Suarez, though, is apparently destined for his dream Messi reunion.
