What is England's World Cup squad?
Trent Alexander-Arnold has made Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad despite an abject start to the season with Liverpool, whilst there is no place for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.
Alexander-Arnold has come in for some fierce criticism this season as Liverpool have got off to their worst ever Premier League start under Jurgen Klopp, but with Chelsea's Reece James injuring his knee against AC Milan last month, a space has opened up for Trent.

Harry Maguire, who has been dropped at Manchester United by Erik ten Hag, remains firmly in Gareth Southgate's plans as the England manager has named j18 players who also helped him get to the final of Euro 2018. AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori misses out.

Raheem Sterling is the most capped player in the squad with 79 senior international outings to date. There had been some speculation that he would be overlooked with his summer transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea not really working out so far.
Totenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, by a distance, has the most goals with 51. That he could be joined in the final third by Marcus Rashford is testament to the Manchester United man's recent form under Ten Hag.

Sancho may not have made it, but there are three United players in the squad with Luke Shaw joining Maguire and Rashford.
Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham is the only player in the squad not currently plying his trade in England given Tomori's omission. Roma's Tammy Abraham was also overlooked.
Leicester's James Maddison is the least-capped player, having made his England debut back in November 2019.
