Onana, 27, is set to join Man Utd for €52.5 million from the Serie A giants but Romano has warned that it could take some time before the transfer is made official.

However, everything remains on track for the Cameroon international to join the Old Trafford side imminently.

Romano has revealed that Onana was entirely happy with Inter but that when Man Utd’s interest became apparent, it was “impossible” for him to reject Erik ten Hag’s side.

The keeper has joined United in the wake of David de Gea’s departure, which was a tough call for Man Utd to make, Romano told his YouTube channel. As such, they have gone all-in on the former Barcelona and Ajax man, who they see as a player who will be a long-term No.1, just as De Gea was before him.

Onana, who was a top option for two unnamed club, Romano has reported, has agreed a five-year deal with the Red Devils, which has the option of a further season. It means that he will be with the club until 2028.

Who will Man Utd sign next?

Now Man Utd are seeking a player to back Onana up. Ten Hag is aiming for a player with a similar skillset, with Romano once again underlining the potential of signing Zion Suzuki from Urawa Red Diamonds.

Dean Henderson, meanwhile, is set to join Nottingham Forest, where he spent last season on loan. It is stated that a deal is not guaranteed but it is well advanced.

Onana’s arrival guarantees that Henderson would have remained second choice at Man Utd, which is a situation that did not satisfy him.
