Bruno Guimaraes drops big summer transfer hint with 'genuis' comment
Bruno Guimaraes dropped a hint over his future at Newcastle.
The Brazilian midfielder praised his relationship with Pep Guardiola following the weekend’s match between the two side, with the Spaniard’s side coming out on top 2-0.
Guimaraes has been linked with a move to the Etihad after his spell with the Magpies, following his move there from Lyon in January last year.
Widely considered Newcastle’s best player, the 25-year-old has been instrumental in the club’s revival this season, following their takeover by PIF.
His rich form has meant there’s been a plethora of interested clubs - and the player, speaking to ESPN Brazil, suggested that he is very much an admirer of Man City’s coach Guardiola.
"Pep said I was ‘bueno’, good!” he said. “We have a good relationship, we have already talked a few times. For me, Pep’s a genius, the best coach in history."
Man City have the likes of Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan in their ranks already, but their futures look uncertain at the moment.
They also bought Kalvin Phillips from Leeds but so far the England international has failed to impress and is struggling for minutes, while injuries haven’t helped either.
Real Madrid hot on the tail
Real Madrid have been linked to the star, who they see as an alternative to Jude Bellingham, should they fail to convince him to join the Bernabeu.
Luka Modric and Toni Kroos's long-term futures at the club remain uncertain owing to their age.
Bellingham is also linked with a move to Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, and Manchester United - while Guimaraes may potentially come at a cheaper rate.
Guimaraes is under contract until 2026 and appears very happy at Newcastle.
But if the club miss out on qualification for the Champions League or Europa League, things may untangle.
