Man Utd told to pay record fee to PSV for Gakpo transfer
Manchester United will have to pay a record sum for Cody Gakpo is they wish to sign him during the January transfer window, according to comments from PSV director Marcel Brands.
Gakpo has been of interest to various clubs over the last few months after an impressive start to his season and great form at the World Cup.
The Dutchman has been involved in 30 goals for PSV – 17 goals and 13 assists – over the course of this campaign and followed that up at the World Cup.

He scored three goals in Qatar in Louis van Gaal’s team – in each of the three group games – and raised the interest in him in that period.
Brands suggest clubs will have to spend big
Now, Brands suggests he will cost a lot of money, having already demanded a high fee for him previously and it may have to be a club-record sale to prize him away from Eindhoven.
Manchester United are believed to be most interested in the forward having chased a new attacking player for the last few months due to the lack of depth in their ranks.

Brands spoke about the possible January sale of Gakpo: “Only 10-12 clubs can pay afford Cody Gakpo in January. Let’s see if it will happen — it has to be PSV record sale and also the right bid for Cody’s plans”
“We have still no official bids. Let’s see if some club will pay big money in January,” he added, suggesting offers haven’t yet come in for the attacker.
PSV’s most expensive sale is that of Hirving Lozano to Napoli back in 2019, when they let him go for a €45 million fee, and Gakpo is set to eclipse that.
There was a suggestion that he would go for a fee of around €50 million, but after his World Cup, there may be an increase to that amount.
