The Gunners are reported to have received a bid of around €20 million for the 31-year-old midfielder.

According to Tuttosport, Arsenal are playing hardball in negotiations and have made an “absurd request” in order to agree to a sale.

It is not clear what this request is but the assumption is it is financially related.

Arsenal are hesitant over whether to go through with a sale due to the injury to Thomas Partey leaving them short on midfield cover.

Jorginho is open to a move having fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates.

He has played just 17 minutes of football so far this season over three substitute appearances, with new signing Declan Rice established as first-choice holding midfielder for the team.

Jorginho completed a surprise move across London during the January transfer window, leaving Chelsea for Arsenal.

He moved for a fee in the region of £12 million (€15m) and signed a deal that runs until 2024.

Jorginho’s contract at Stamford Bridge was due to expire at the end of last season and there was little chance of him penning a renewal.

This opened the door for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to move for Jorginho.

He featured regularly in the second half of the last campaign but is now considered nothing more than a squad player.

Jorginho has also lost his place in the Italy national team squad under new manager Luciano Spalletti.

With Euro 2024 taking place at the end of the season, the naturalised midfielder knows he needs more game time if he is to get back into the Italy squad for the finals.
