Legend hits out at ‘EMBARRASSING’ Liverpool for transfer FAILURE
Jamie Carragher has criticised Liverpool’s pursuit of Romeo Lavia, after Southampton rejected the Reds’ third bid for the midfielder.
The 2019/20 Premier League champions fell short with a £45m offer for Lavia on Monday (August 7), with Southampton sticking rigidly to their £50m valuation of the 19-year-old Belgium international.
And Carragher – who spent his whole career with Liverpool, making over 700 appearances – isn’t too happy about what he’s seen from his old club.

Taking to Twitter, the former England defender wrote: “This is embarrassing. Liverpool for years now have got deals done quickly with no fuss. If you don’t think he’s [Lavia] worth 50m, move on; if you really want him, pay it.
“Also not sure why [Liverpool] aren’t in for [Moises] Caicedo. Yes, it’s a lot of money, but Liverpool got big money for Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.”
Henderson and Fabinho recently joined Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Ettifaq and Al-Ittihad respectively for a combined £52m – although it should be noted that Brighton value Caicedo, who is a target for Chelsea, at around £100m.
Liverpool running out of time to revamp their midfield
Liverpool have made just two signings so far this summer, bringing in Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35m and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for £60m.
But the double exit of Henderson and Fabinho has left Jurgen Klopp with more gaps to fill in midfield – and there are only a few weeks of the transfer window left.
Among the other midfielders who have been linked with a switch to Anfield are Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure, Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips.
