Manchester United transfer target Benjamin Pavard appears to be openly pushing for a move from Bayern Munich to Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old defender, a 2018 World Cup winner with France, has emerged as a top option for Man Utd as they look to bolster their backline between now and the end of the window.

And did Pavard drop a not-so-subtle hint about his future during United’s win over Wolves on Monday night?

Raphael Varane’s second-half header saw a well below-par Man Utd scrape a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford in their Premier League season opener – and Pavard liked what he saw from his international teammate.

His reply of two fire emojis to Varane’s Instagram post after the game has only added to the already swirling speculation.

And, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Pavard – who is said to want regular minutes at centre-back rather than right-back – is “pushing with Bayern to make the deal happen”.

Pavard to help Man Utd’s Champions League push?

Just as he did for much of last term, Varane partnered Lisandro Martinez at the heart of United’s back four against Wolves – but increasing competition for places there wouldn’t go amiss as Ten Hag aims to build on his sold first 12 months in the Old Trafford dugout.

Expectations are bound to be high as Man Utd return to the Champions League, a competition Pavard knows all about winning – having done so with Bayern in 2019/20.

Two of United’s summer signings featured on Monday: Andre Onana – who could count himself very lucky not to give away a penalty late on – and Mason Mount, with €75m striker Rasmus Hojlund not quite fit yet.
