Scott McTominay holds the key that could unlock Manchester United's Sofyan Amrabat transfer saga, but everything may be for nought unless the Red Devils move quickly.

Sofyan Amrabat is still waiting. In truth, the Moroccan has been waiting for Man Utd to make a move since June when he originally assented to a potential transfer.

United's lack of funds raised from sales has made any deal impossible and the issue persists as we head into the final couple of days of the transfer window. Harry Maguire won't leave the club now, that is pretty much set in stone after Raphael Varane's injury. Donny van de Beek, meanwhile, is still in talks over a potential exit, but it will likely only be a loan departure.

This leaves Scott McTominay as the last remaining bastion of Erik ten Hag's transfer hopes. The Dutchman is keen to be reunited with Amrabat, his former Utrecht protégé, but he will likely need to get McTominay off the books first.

The Telegraph claims that United may be desperate enough to budge from their initial £40-£45 million, but who is going to sign him? Will West Ham go back in for him despite already signing two - three if you count Kudus - midfielders? Bayern are interested in the Scot, but they favour Trevoh Chalobah as he is more versatile.

Amrabat twist

Worrying about McTominay may ultimately end up having been for nought, however. La Nazione reports that a massive twist in the Amrabat saga is on the cards.

As we get closer to the deadline, Fiorentina are becoming increasingly willing to sanction a loan deal to allow the wantaway midfielder to leave. This opens up new and interesting possibilities - but not necessarily for Man Utd!

According to Calciomercato, this development has put Juventus 'at the forefront' of the saga, with the hope being that the loan of former Liverpool flop Arthur to Fiorentina has eased tensions between the two traditional rivals to make a deal possible.
