Salah has been a revelation since moving to the Reds, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side win the Champions League and the Premier League, as well as developing into one of the most prolific forward in Europe on a personal level.

  • However, he is reportedly unsettled at the moment and was particularly unhappy at not being given the captain’s armband in a recent Champions League fixture against Midtjylland, with 22-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold given the honour instead.

Aboutrika says there are other reasons for Salah’s current unhappiness, too.

“I called Salah about his situation at Liverpool and he is upset, but that would never affect his performance on the field,” the 42-year-old told beIN Sports.

“I know that Salah is not happy in Liverpool, he told me the reasons why he is not happy but they are secrets and I cannot talk about it in public. One of the reasons that made Salah angry was that he was not the captain against Midtjylland.”

The ongoing pandemic has financially impacted every club in the world in one way or another, and Liverpool are no different.

Aboutrika believes that, due to the fact Salah isn’t enjoying life at Anfield currently, Liverpool may actually decide to cash in on their Egyptian superstar.

“If Salah was a player at Real Madrid or Barcelona, and playing at the same level as Liverpool, he would’ve won the Ballon d’Or, and it is normal for a Spanish newspaper to ask Salah about Real Madrid and Barcelona,” he added.

“In my opinion, Liverpool are considering selling Salah for economic purposes.

“I do not have any influence over Salah’s decisions, he is my friend and brother, and he is smart enough to know what is best for him.”

The Al Ahly legend was referring to a recent interview Salah gave which included questions about potentially signing for Real Madrid or Barcelona in the future.

In his answers, he admitted it was a possibility in the future, but that he was focused on success with Liverpool.
