Vazquez is one of a few Madrid stars whose contracts run out in the summer of 2021, with Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric also yet to agree on a new deal.

In recent games, while Los Blancos have struggled, head coach Zinedine Zidane has been able to trust Vazquez to perform out of position at right-back due to the players he currently has out injured.

  • The Spaniard has performed admirably for the most part, and was one of their best players as they came through the crucial Champions League Matchday Six fixture against Gladbach with a 2-0 win to keep themselves in the competition.

Against the German side, Vazquez caused havoc down the right wing, and assisted the opening goal with a peach of a cross for Karim Benzema.

Despite his ability to play in numerous positions, and the trust Zidane has in him, he is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract.

“That’s a complicated issue,” Vazquez told Movistar when asked about contract negotiations.

“We’ll see what happens. I dedicate myself to work, and in football sometimes it doesn’t depend on just one part. I’m very happy to be in Madrid.”

In the match versus Gladbach, Vazquez formed a formidable partnership with Rodrygo, who was deployed ahead of him on the right.

He has praised the Brazilian’s understanding of the game, as well as relishing in the victory overall.

“We have shown what the team is capable of. Rodrygo is a great player and it’s very easy to play with him because he understands football very well,” Vazquez added.

“We needed a victory. It’s important for the coach and for us, and together we make a great team. We have no doubts about what we are capable of doing.”

Most recently, Vazquez was tenuously linked with a move to Man Utd in January.
