Football Manager 2022 free transfers: Best goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards
One of the quickest ways to bolster your team upon the release of a new Football Manager season is by dipping into the free transfer market.
There are always some legendary veterans and sometimes some gifted younger talents available to improve your squad when you go into the player search and filter players by selecting those who are "unattached" or those that are simply free agents.
To give you a bit of a head start, we've already had a dip into who the best players available on the 2022 FM Beta are, so that you can get started strengthening your new squad as soon as possible.
Best Football Manager 2022 free agent goalkeepers
Name | Position | Age |
---|---|---|
Willy Caballero | GK | 40 |
Ander Bardají | GK | 26 |
Loïc Badiashile | GK | 23 |
Yohann Pelé | GK | 38 |
Abdoulaye Diallo | GK | 29 |
At 40 years young, Willy Caballero is no spring chicken, but he's probably the best of the goalkeeping options available on the new game.
Having been a back-up for much of his career, he would certainly welcome the chance to keep goal as a first choice option at this late stage in his career. And you never know, he might even turn into a good goalkeeping coach as well.
Best Football Manager 2022 free agent defenders
Name | Position | Age |
---|---|---|
Dani Alves | RB | 38 |
Eliaquim Mangala | CB | 30 |
Gaetano Berardi | CB | 33 |
Sidnei | CB | 32 |
Marc Navarro | D/WB/M R | 26 |
Luca Germoni | LB | 24 |
Oliver Sorg | DRL | 24 |
Andre Wisdom | RB | 28 |
Diego Contento | D/WB/M R | 31 |
Mateo Musacchio | CB | 31 |
Legendary former Barcelona star Dani Alves deserves his place at the top of this list given all he has achieved in the game but Eliaquim Mangala is a surprisingly good player to be available still in what should be the peak years of his career at 30.
Former Bayern Munich man Diego Contento is probably the pick of the left-backs on the list, and still with good years ahead of him at 31.
Best Football Manager 2022 free agent midfielders
Name | Position | Age |
---|---|---|
Jack Wilshere | AM RLC | 29 |
Iago Falque | AM RLC, CF | 31 |
Jordon Ibe | AM RL | 25 |
Ljubomir Fejsa | DM | 33 |
Kwadwo Asamoah | M LC, D/WB L | 26 |
Fede Cartabia | AM RLC | 28 |
Senad Lulic | AM LC, D/WB L | 31 |
Kevin Gutierrez | CM, D/WBL | 28 |
Sebastian Giovinco | AM LC, CF | 34 |
Diego Perotti | AM RLC | 33 |
It's odd to think former Arsenal wonderkid Jack Wilshere is still just 29 years old, and he is the pick of the players available on this list but Iago Falgue is another good creative attacking midfielder and Jordon Ibe could provide a real threat out wide. Ibe was a £15m player only five years ago in real life and is still 25.
Of the more defensive-minded midfielders, former Benfica player Ljubomir Fejsa is probably the pick of the bunch.
Best Football Manager 2022 free agent strikers
Name | Position | Age |
---|---|---|
Andy Carroll | ST | 32 |
Han Kwang-song | ST | 22 |
Wilfried Bony | ST | 32 |
Graziano Pellè | ST | 36 |
Jerome Sinclair | ST, AM RL | 25 |
Carlos Tevez | ST, AMC | 37 |
Sergio Diaz | ST, AM C | 23 |
Aron Jóhannsson | ST | 30 |
Papiss Cissé | ST | 36 |
Facundo Ferreyra | ST | 30 |
A number of former Premier League frontmen in this list with Carlos Tevez clearly the most legendary of the names but Wilfried Bony and Papiss Cissé also had really good spells in England.
And if you want a proper target man, you could go for Andy Caroll or Italian veteran Graziano Pellè. These players were released by West Ham and Parma, respectively, this past summer.
