Ozil at the heart of Fenerbahce controversy
Mesut Ozil caused controversy during Fenerbahce's 2-1 win over Kasimpasa on Sunday.
The 32-year-old had already been struggling in the Turkish Super Lig, and the latest events are in line with what has been a troublesome end to the career of a magnificent player.
There had been previous reports of an issue between Ozil and head coach Vitor Pereira which have only heightened since this recent scandal.
The German playmaker failed to enter the field of play during the match, highlighting that he is having far less than the desired impact on the team, especially given the lofty expectations that came with his signing.
And his lack of happiness at the club was clear for all to see in his alleged act of disobedience.
What did Ozil do?
The World Cup-winning midfielder warmed up for 40 minutes in the game against Kasimpasa, a potential sign that Pereira was always looking to make an example out of him.
Typically, a player would spend a reasonable five to 10 minutes warming up before either being introduced to the pitch or being told to sit back down on the bench.
However, in this instance, it appeared the ex-Arsenal player warmed up for a remarkable length of time before he called it a day - allegedly throwing his warm-up top in front of Pereira.

However, it can never be confirmed whether the gesture was intended as a statement directed towards the Portuguese boss.
And perhaps Ozil's recent bout of flu may have had a part to play in the decision not to bring on the former Real Madrid star.
Nevertheless, he will not be happy with his role within the team, as he has completed just the single full 90 minutes.
Furthermore, in an attempt to quash the issue, club president Ali Koc commented: “He came to us to become the leader of this team and to make Fenerbahce the champion again after seven years. He will do it too and he will show the world who he is."
But, it is fair to say it would be a surprise to all if these comments were to come true, as Ozil's career looks to be derailing.
