Laporta backs Koeman to continue as Barcelona boss
Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has given his backing to Ronald Koeman to continue as the club’s manager.
The Dutchman’s position came in for scrutiny during a poor start to the current campaign, though he has since overseen something of an upturn in form.
Barca were unbeaten in their last nine outings prior to suffering a last-gasp defeat to Athletic Bilbao in the Supercopa de Espana on Sunday.
And a recovery of their league form has seen the Catalans climb into third place in La Liga, albeit seven points short of leaders Atletico Madrid having played two games more.

Barcelona’s previous struggles had led to suggestions that Koeman could be sacked and replaced by fellow club legend Xavi once a new president is chosen.
But Laporta, who is in the running for a second stint in charge at Camp Nou, has now seemingly ruled out a mid-season change.
“Koeman has a valid contract and he’s a great of Barcelona,” he said.
“He’s looking for a way to make us happy. Xavi is an asset of the club and he will end up being the coach, but for now I want to motivate Koeman and the players.”
Xavi is currently taking his first steps in management with Qatari club Al Sadd, who lead their league by 13 points after just 15 matches.
