Messi will move to PSG, says former player Omar da Fonseca
Lionel Messi has been tipped to make the move to PSG this summer by former player of the club Omar da Fonseca.
The Argentine superstar is on the cusp of leaving Barcelona for the first time in his career after becoming disillusioned with life at the club both on and off the pitch.
On the pitch, they are not competitive at the moment as in the 2019/20 season it was the first time in 12 years in which they have failed to win any silverware. In 2020/21, they are 10 points off the pace of league leaders Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
With only a handful of clubs able to afford Messi’s wages should he decided to leave Barcelona, PSG have naturally emerged as the front runners to sign him this summer.
Da Fonseca, a former PSG player, has heard rumours that Messi and his family are learning French, and that he expects the Barca star to make the move to Paris.
“In the Spanish newspapers I read that his whole family had begun to learn French,“ the retired Argentine told RMC.
“As a child, if I’d been told I was coming to play in Paris then it would have been music to my ears. For us Argentines in France, Paris is something important.
“Messi will come. Just imagine if he is able to say he won the Champions League with PSG.”
Though Messi has previously stated that his future would be decided at the end of the current season, FootballTransfers previously reported that PSG had told merchandise vendors within Paris to prepare themselves for his arrival.
New head coach of PSG Mauricio Pochettino was recently asked about the club potentially acquiring Messi, but he played it cool, telling Sport:
“Whatever I say will be misunderstood, and I love what I have. Great footballers fit in any league and any team.”
