Modric deals Tottenham transfer blow with Real Madrid contract update
Luka Modric has revealed that talks over a contract extension at Real Madrid are ‘going in a good direction’.
The Croatian’s current deal with the Spanish champions expires at the end of the season, though it has been suggested it contains an option for an additional 12 months.
Regardless, Real appear to be looking to tie the 35-year-old down for longer amid reported interest from his former club Tottenham.
Asked about those discussions, Modric replied: “I can’t say much. I’m speaking with the club and everything is going in a good direction.
“I haven’t changed anything in particular. I’m working a lot outside of training, I have the same desire to compete, the years are no problem at all.”

Real Madrid find themselves in a similar position with another star of their recent glorious era under Zinedine Zidane: Sergio Ramos.
The club captain will also be out of contract when the 2020-21 campaign comes to a close and is believed to be on the radar of a number of clubs across Europe.
Modric remained tightlipped when quizzed on whether he would like his teammate to stay put, though.
He added: “I can’t position myself at anyone’s side. Sergio is my friend and I want the best for him, for him to be happy.
“It’s between him and the club. I can’t get involved.”
