Lingard’s outrageous loan form at West Ham continues
Jesse Lingard’s outrageous start to life at West Ham continued on Monday as the on-loan Manchester United man netted his side’s opener against Leeds.
Lingard may have seen his penalty stopped by Illan Messlier, but he was quickest onto the rebound to convert his fourth goal in six matches for the Hammers. Impressively, he won the kick himself with a darting run in from the left flank.

In netting, Lingard has set a number of personal records as he bounces back emphatically from being given the cold shoulder by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Man Utd.
For instance, he has now scored as many Premier League goals in five weeks since making his debut for West Ham as he managed in his previous two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford.
Although he scored on the final day of the 2019/20 season for Man Utd, that strike broke a scoring duck in the league that stretched back to 22 December 2018, when he scored twice against Cardiff City away from home.
His previous goal for the club came six days earlier in a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool – 780 days before he made his West Ham bow.
Lingard’s Premier League record
Season | Apps | Goals |
---|---|---|
2014-15 | 1 | 0 |
2015-16 | 25 | 4 |
2016-17 | 25 | 1 |
2017-18 | 33 | 8 |
2018/19 | 27 | 4 |
2019/20 | 22 | 1 |
2020/21* | 6 | 4 |
Furthermore, Lingard has already achieved his joint-second best scoring season in his Premier League career – despite not playing a single game in the first half of the campaign.
He has already equally what he achieved in 2015/16 and 2018/19, while his eight-goal personal best from the 2017/18 season now does not look unreasonable with West Ham still having 11 matches of the campaign to play.
Little wonder, then, that Solskjaer has already indicated that Man Utd want Lingard back in their ranks at the end of this loan.
