Lucas Ocampos clarifies Sevilla future amid Liverpool speculation
Liverpool and Leeds United may need to look elsewhere for a winger this summer as reported target Lucas Ocampos has said he is happy at Sevilla.
Ocampos has been one of Sevilla’s most important players over the past couple of years following his move from Marseille in 2019.
He was in stellar form in 2019/20, in particular, as he hit 14 goals in his debut season in La Liga, while recording three assists.
In 2021/21 his numbers are down to four goals and four assists.
Ocampos has, however, shown enough that Liverpool and Leeds, even reportedly Real Madrid, are interesting in taking him away from Sevilla.
It doesn’t seem likely that will happen, though, judging by his recent comments.
What has Ocampos said?
“I always say the same thing,” the Argentine told Canal Sur Radio.
“I’m focusing on the present and I don’t look further ahead of the things that I cannot control.
“I love this city and what has happened in the past two years. I hope it continues.
“I’m very happy here and I’m not thinking of playing anywhere else than here.
“I’m very grateful to the club because they gave me confidence and allowed me to grow in certain facets of my game, which other clubs had not.”
Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for an extra winger this season to provide more competition for places up front, and as well as Ocampos, has reportedly targeted Torino midfielder Wilfried Singo.
Marcelo Bielsa is a fan of Ocampos, too, though Leeds would be unable to enter a bidding war if Liverpool make their interest concrete.
He reportedly has a £62 million release clause but due to the ongoing pandemic, it is likely that Sevilla would be willing to accept a lower offer. Key to his exit could also depend on other important players leaving like Jules Kounde, who is also on Liverpool’s radar.
