Solskjaer picks which one Man Utd legend from 1999 he’d sign for his team
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed which player he would take from the legendary 1999 treble winning side for his current team.
Solskjaer was a member of perhaps the greatest Man Utd team ever, which dominated domestically and in Europe for 12 months. Indeed, he scored the winning goal after 93 minutes of the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

It was a team packed with legends from front to back.
Now back at Man Utd in a managerial capacity, Solskjaer was asked to reflect on that side and picked the one individual he would want in his ranks.
“They were all unbelievable individuals in a fantastic team. They were absolutely top players,” he told Sky Sports. “You’d have attributes from every single one of them. You’d want David Beckham’s crossing, Ryan Giggs’ dribbling and Jaap Stam’s dominance at the back, you’d want Ronny Johnsen’s pace, you’d want Scholes’ everything! Every one of them.
“But I’ve always said it, if I had to chose one player, it would be Roy Keane.
“Everything he did, he was a leader, the way he played, he pushed everyone.”
Why did Roy Kean not play in the 1999 Champions League final?
Keane was notably absent from the team’s crowning moment at Barcelona’s Camp Nou, having bee suspended after picking up a booking in the second leg of the semi-final against Juventus. However, that encounter is considered to be his defining match as he showed remarkable mental fortitude to held Man Utd turn around a deficit at one of Europe’s most intimidating venues at the time.
Since retiring, Keane has moved into management. He has taken charge of Sunderland and Ipswich, and has recently been an assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland. He is one of a number of candidates linked with the vacant Celtic post.
