Thomas Muller admits he could follow Thiago out of Bayern Munich
Thomas Muller has sensationally admitted that he wouldn’t be against the idea of leaving Bayern Munich at some point.
The German has played with Bayern for his entire career including as a youngster, and has won everything there is to win with the Bavarian giants.
He remains an integral part of the first team, and although he continues to enjoy huge success, including winning the treble in 2019/20, it appears as though there may be no more worlds to conquer in the famous red kit.
“I’m not fixed to this club,” Muller told The Times.
“I have a special relationship, I loved Bayern before I started playing for them, but when there is a situation where you have to decide maybe to play for a different club it would be no shame and no problem at all.
The World Cup winner mentioned Thiago Alcantara’s exit from to Liverpool as a similar path he could follow, with the Spaniard joining the Anfield side last summer.
“Maybe like with Thiago [Alcantara, now at Liverpool].”
Who could sign Thomas Muller?
Should Muller decide to leave, the clubs apparently most interested at the moment are Manchester United and Liverpool, though the links to the current Premier League champions may be due to the presence of compatriot Jurgen Klopp at the club as well as former team-mate Thiago.
The 31-year-old has enjoyed a renaissance in his Bayern career over the past year, as in the first few months of the 2019/20 campaign he was frozen out of the team under head coach Niko Kovac.
It was only when Hansi Flick replaced Kovac that Muller was brought back into the fold, and he would go up to help Bayern win the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and the Champions League.
During the period of time he wasn’t starting at the Allianz Arena, he has admitted previously that the situation would have forced him not to sign a new contract with Bayern in order to get some first team football.
At that time, Man Utd and Arsenal were his suitors, though rumours regarding a move to the Premier League subsequently died down after his return to the starting XI.
