Bayern Munich may be on the verge of hijacking Manchester United and Chelsea’s efforts to sign Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez in the summer.

According to German broadcasters Sport1, Vazquez has piqued the interest of numerous clubs around Europe following the player’s decision not to renew his contract with Madrid.

Vazquez’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, which would mean the player would be able to sign for another club for free ahead of next season.

So far, the clubs linked with the 29-year-old talent have primarily been based in England, with Man Utd and Chelsea leading the way.

But now it seems as though Bayern could also be looking to throw their hat in the ring – and they may beat both Premier League clubs to Vazquez’s signature.

Could Bayern Munich sign Vazquez this summer?

Perhaps the most obvious reason for Bayern leading the chase for Vazquez is down to the fact that the German giants are in desperate need of a new right-back that can also play on the wing.

Although Hansi Flick can call upon Benjamin Pavard at right-back, the poor performances of new signing Bouna Sarr has meant the Bayern head coach has had to play central defender Niklas Sule on the flank when Pavard has been out with injury.

Similarly, following Bayern’s decision to not renew the loan deal of Douglas Costa for next season, the Bavarian giants will also be looking for a squad player that can help fill in on the wing when called upon.

This, according to the reports in Germany, is what makes Vazquez such an appealing option for next season.

Not only can the Spaniard play as a full-back, but he can also fill in as a wing-back or as a full-blown winger when necessary. Which would make the 29-year-old the perfect cover for Bayern’s entire right flank.
