Carlo Ancelotti has sent a goodbye message to Everton supporters following his appointment as the new head coach of Real Madrid.

Following the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign, Zinedine Zidane announced he would be leaving his role as head coach of Real Madrid, citing a lack of support in his ideas for a rebuild as the main reason for his departure.

Los Blancos and president Florentino Perez quickly started their recruitment drive, with the likes of Raul, Joachim Low and Massimiliano Allegri mentioned as potential candidates.

They eventually settled on a return for Ancelotti, however, who previously coached the club between 2013 and 2015.

In the 2014 Champions League final, he guided Real Madrid to ‘La Decima’ – the club’s fabled 10th European Cup.

After leaving Madrid, he would go on to enjoy spells at Bayern Munich, Napoli, and then Everton whom he coached in the 2020/21 season.

What did Ancelotti say?

In a heartfelt social media post, Ancelotti thanked Everton fans for their support and explained why he opted to move back to the Spanish capital.

“I would like to thank Everton FC, my players and the supporters for giving me the opportunity to manage this fantastic and historical club. I decided to leave as I have a new challenge with a team that was always in my heart, Real Madrid,” he wrote on Twitter.

“I leave taking with me all the amazing moments we have experienced together and wish the Club and fans all the best.”

Ancelotti has a bit of a rebuilding job on his hands at the Santiago Bernabeu, as the club failed to win a major trophy last season.

As well as potentially having to contend with legendary defender Sergio Ramos who looks set to leave on a free transfer, he will have to inspire the likes of the underperforming Eden Hazard.
