Man Utd-target Sancho reveals he is a Chelsea fan
Manchester United target Jadon Sancho has admitted that he grew up a Chelsea fan ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford in the summer.
United were heavily linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund star last summer only for a deal to fall through, with interest renewed this off-season.
Sancho is currently with the England squad for the Euros, but when asked about who he idolised growing up he conceded his affinity for the Blues.
“I was a Chelsea fan growing up, I can’t lie! Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard were my favourite players at the time,” he told talkSPORT.
“I just love Frank Lampard and how he played his game, he was so direct and so composed on the ball. I like things like that.”
Sancho came through the Manchester City academy before securing a transfer to Dortmund in 2017, making 12 senior appearances in his first season with an impressive five goal contributions to show.
Since then he has jumped to a new level, with 37 goals and 41 assists in his last three Bundesliga seasons.
Despite this season being his most difficult to date, United maintain their courtship of the 21-year-old, who remained pragmatic as ever when asked about the transfer.
Jadon Sancho tight-lipped over Man Utd transfer
“I’m cool about it. There’s always going to be speculation, especially when you do well,” he said.
“It’s just how you handle that on the pitch. You’ve got to keep doing what you’re doing; if you keep on doing that then I’m sure that won’t be a problem.
“The main thing is my football and that’s what I’m focusing at the moment.”
On that front, Sancho is gearing up to face Croatia in England’s opening game in Group D of Euro 2020 at Wembley on Sunday, while rumours of an initial United bid being rejected continue to circulate back home.
