Harry Kane has put an end to speculation that he could move to Manchester City this summer by declaring that he is remaining at Tottenham.

Kane had indicated before Euro 2020 that he was unhappy at Spurs, stating that he wanted to be playing in the biggest matches in the biggest competitions.

This was seen as a come-and-get-me plea to Europe's biggest clubs, but while interest came from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, it was Manchester City that offered his greatest hope of a move.

However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy turned down the approaches of the Etihad side, with reports suggesting that he would not even answer their calls as they launched a £150 million bid.

Kane, who is under contract until 2024, then reportedly failed to show when expected for pre-season training, and though he eventually returned, he was left out of their first two squads of the season.

The England star, however, has now confirmed that his intention is to remain with Tottenham.

I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success.

"t was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks," he posted on Twitter.

"I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success."

Why is Kane staying at Spurs?

Kane is chiefly remaining at Tottenham because he has no way out. Under contract until 2024, he has very little power, although that will start to change next summer.

Quite simply, he is too important for Spurs to sell as they will not be able to sign a player of the equivalent quality, while they are under no financial obligation to part with him.

Should Tottenham have another difficult season, though, it will be increasingly tough for them to keep Kane beyond next summer.
